I hadn't heard about this game until yesterday, but that's not too surprising since I took a year-long break from things Free To Play. In fact, you may have noticed the decreased coverage of F2P games on the blog. With the announcement that Tera is going F2P in February, I took it as a sign from the stars for me to come back and see what's new.
Path of Exile is one of the most hotly anticipated Free To Play games on my list of games for 2013. After Diablo 3's lackluster launch and subsequent meltdown, Diablo II fans haven't had a proper outlet (save Torchlight and Torchlight II) to get their Diablo on. All that looks to change in 6 days when Path of Exile launches and goes Free To Play.
What is Path of Exile? Well, it's essentially Diablo II gameplay with new, 3D graphics. Everything we know and love from Diablo II is here including looting, randomly generated dungeons, great enemy types, classes, incredible depth of items and inventory... All that's missing is shitty DRM and 10 years of development time ;)
For the love of all things holy please fund this game.
The original Armada changed my life when I played it on the Dreamcast back in high school. Hours and hours were spent with friends teaming up against the Armada and the Marauders. Armada is a fantastic game and has been featured as a Game of The Day. I love everything about the universe and gameplay. So much so that I used to run a web 1.0 Armada info/fan site called Armadatron, complete with animated GIFs, back in the day.
Now, imagine how excited I am that the two dudes working on the MMORPG Armada sequel, Armada Online, have started a Kickstarter to go full-time on the project.
Wait, isn't the alpha for Armada Online already available?
Yep. But, it's been a long time with slow progress. The Kickstarter project is intended to allow Mark and Roger the opportunity to go full-time and full-steam ahead with their dream game.
That being said, the fact that you can play Armada Online now is actually quite a good thing! It's a heck of a lot of fun, especially in a team at a LAN. Getting your friends together to take down bosses is really solid.
So What Now?
Put some damn money in! I am at the $48 level, but even the perks in the $32 level sound exciting. It's going to be awesome to get my own custom, official avatar made in the style of my race of choice. Tres cool.
UPDATE: The Kickstarter campaign was relaunched halfway through. I've updated the links and the information in the article to reflect the new stuff.
Square-Enix is bringing its classic Final Fantasy III to OUYA, to launch day one alonside the system in March 2013. Not only that, they have intentions to bring other (as yet unannounced) games to the platform as well.
While I'm excited about Square-Enix bringing their games to OUYA, I'm actually more excited about Shadowrun Online. It looks like a game I'd love to play. I love the cyberpunk dystopian future setting and one can (almost) do no better than the Shadowrun universe.
