Developer: Arcen Games
Cost: $5 to $10 USD
A few weeks ago I was asked by a fellow at Arcen Games if I wanted to try out a few of their indie games for free, presumably with the hope of me covering some of the games on gameblaster64, though that was never discussed. Free games to play from an indie developer with no string attached? How could I refuse?
Well, it turns out that they must let their games do the talking, confident that players will enjoy them enough to share 🙂 So, here we are.
Tidalis is a fun block puzzle game with a ton of game modes and neat challenges to defeat. If you like games like Lumines, Tetris, Lucid, Dr. Mario, or Bust-a-move, it's very likely that you'll like Tidalis, too.
There are several modes to play: a story mode that takes you along a journey where you must defeat challenges set for you along the way, a custom level editor mode where you can share your levels with others and score on Internet-based leaderboards, and a free mode where you can pick any level and difficulty modifiers to see if you are up to the challenge.
There are some really neat difficulty modifiers to choose from including my favourite, Gravity, which makes your stream fall to the base of the map over distance, making the game play strategic and tactical at the same time.
It's really tough to get a feel for a puzzle game from either screenshots or videos. So, if you've got a few minutes, try out Tidalis Lite in your browser on the Tidalis homepage. If you like it, pick it up for $5 to $10 on Steam.
