Thanks to the Steam Greenlight program and many of Guncraft's faithful fans, Exato Games' Guncraft is now available on Steam for $15. Released with much fanfare, this "Minecraft FPS", launched on PC and Xbox 360 last year. But, like many indie games, getting on Steam is a huge boon to sales and legitimacy.
Along with the option of inviting friends to online versus or co-op matches, the game also comes with 69 Steam achievements, Steam Cloud support, full controller support, and a level-editor. It doesn't look like it supports Steam Workshop yet, but that would be a very welcome addition for the modding and mapping community. Exato, take note!
Guncraft is a first person shooter game utilizing the voxel style made popular by the highly acclaimed game, Minecraft. This game will take traditional FPS elements and combine them with construction to create a fast paced, diverse, and extremely unique level of gameplay. Combine that with a multiplayer editor and tons of modding capabilities, and you have yourself a very versatile game.
I have to admit, I'm really excited about this game. You, too?
If you're loving the gameplay found in Minecraft and are looking to try out some similar games, give these games a try. Some are even free to play!
Not all of these are Minecraft clones, however. Infiniminer was actually a huge inspiration to Notch when he started building Minecraft. Also, Notch was part of the team that worked on Wurm Online before leaving to go do his own gig.
