
The current darling of Kickstarter, the OUYA console, is in its last 24 hours of its campaign. Will it reach $8 million before closing up shop?
Whatever the final tally ends up being in dollars, it speaks volumes more about the desire for gamers to have something different and something better than what we've been getting in the living room from AAA studios.
As a game developer, I'm excited to get my hands on the unit and start building games for it. I think it will definitely make events like 7dfps and Ludum Dare much more interesting!
The controller looks very comfortable and the monetary value of the system (performance versus the price) make it an attractive buy for pretty much everyone. This could become the next Super Nintendo or Genesis: a good "first console" for kids, offering up great/classic 2D games at a price parents are willing to pay.
It's too bad that they're going to miss the Christmas sales window. This Christmas will definitely go to Nintendo with its WiiU launch.
Speaking of which, I wonder what changes Nintendo has made to the WiiU since the OUYA made its splash a few weeks ago ...
